Tesco Stronger Start successful bid

Winterbourne Junior Girls’ school are delighted to announce that following the Tesco Stronger Starts vote in your local Tesco stores, our project came Second and has been chosen by Tesco Customers to receive a grant award of £1,000.00!

Voting was held at Tesco stores over the past year and proved to be very successful with millions of votes being cast by Tesco Customers across the UK.

Our proposed bid was to use the grant to purchase rock style musical instruments for the school. These instruments will give our girls the opportunity to be inspired to form their own playground orchestra/band where they will be able to create and perform songs and musical items using the instruments purchased.

We purchased a range of sturdy instruments that are exclusively for playground use such as percussion instruments, portable keyboards, drums and recording equipment. The pupils will be able to come together in a collaborative effort to produce music as a group. They will learn teamwork, patience, responsibility, and endurance as members of the band.

Studies show that that playing an instrument can lower cortisol levels, which can lead to a decrease in anxiety, therefore playing an instrument can help with relaxation and stress. Playing in a band can boost self-confidence as you work toward a goal and reach it.

Keep checking our news pages as we will keep you updated on band as the girls master their new skills.
