Butser Farm Visit 2025

Posted on December 2, 2025
No Comments

On Monday December 1st, our Year 4 children set off to Portsmouth to visit the Butser Ancient Farm. They visited the farm as part of their project on The Romans.

Butser Ancient Farm is a unique experimental archaeology site nestled into the rolling countryside of the South Downs National Park.

In 2022, Butser Ancient Farm celebrated their 50th anniversary, from their origins as an Iron Age research site they now feature archaeological reconstructions of ancient buildings from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon period. Their buildings are internationally famous and appear frequently in documentaries and feature films. Butser Ancient Farm also grow crops from prehistory and keep rare breeds of animals, such as goats and sheep.

The children became archaeologists as they excavated a site looking for ancient relics. They also made jewellery such as bracelets or rings using wire.
